Water is a marvelous and mysterious molecule that holds many complex secrets in its deceptively simple structure. It is the “elixir of all life”. Whether as a solid, liquid, or vapor, water adds so much beauty to our planet… and besides that, we cannot live without it. How can one molecule appear clear as water, white as snow, and blue as glaciers?

Enjoy exploring some of the fascinating, if not mind-boggling, relationships that exist in nature.   Did you know that that living coral reefs (like the Great Barrier Reef) depend on tiny one-celled plants for their survival. See things you’ve seen many times, yet have never seen before – because they’re camouflaged. Explore some incredible and unlikely relationships between species.

The Spectacular Wildlife of North America

Our Ocean & The Formation of Islands

Did you know that, right now, a new Hawaiian Island is forming, named Loihi? It is an actively erupting volcano that has yet to reach the sea’s surface. How many volcanoes are on Hawaii’s Big Island? How many of these are active? When was the most recent eruption on Hawaii’s Big Island? Might Diamondhead, on Oahu, erupt during your next Hawaiian vacation? The answers to these, and other questions of geographic importance and interest, will be addressed in this interactive, edu-taining presentation, replete with dramatic images of cataclysmic world events.

See astonishing images and short videos of humpbacks, blue whales, and orcas (“killer whales”), up close and personal, in their natural ocean environment.   See how mothers teach their young, how calves breastfeed without lips, how adults eat without teeth, and how males compete for mating rights. This presentation concludes with the heart-gripping images and true story of a whale entangled in fishing nets, nearly-drowned, when discovered by six fishermen. As the story unfolds… there won’t be a dry eye (tears of joy) in the theater.

“David had a wonderful following of fellow guests that cherished his a) speeches and b) friendship. Let me elaborate: a) Speeches were essentially “Perfect”. He has the knowledge, personal experience, personality, charm, wit and more…not to mention ideal AV tools of still slides, video (he recorded himself in most cases), back ground music etc. I attended every one of his four presentations and had to bring a box of tissues to wipe away the tears from his most touching and heart wrenching stories of what I call The Miracles of Nature.
David would have us laughing one minute and crying the next…a real testimony to his professional speaking abilities. He is always perfectly prepared, speaks the kings English and ends on precisely 45 minutes. Wow…to say he is “The Best” is not an over statement.” Mr. Jim Kennedy,  former Director, Kennedy Space Center.

“Dr. Plourd is an amazing OBGYN who is also a naturalist and Marine biology expert. He speaks all over the world including on some of the high end cruise lines. We have used him in Maui for our medical programs, but have asked him to present on a pre-conference day on the whales, dolphins and marine life. He packs the house. Even as an OBGYN he is rated our #1 speaker.” Walter Ejnes, CHCP, President, Continuing Education Company

“Dr. Plourd is by far one of the best speakers I have ever seen at a medical conference. I wish I had him as a professor of residency. Thanks so much!” Dr. Sara Robert, MD

“I have come to Symposia Medicus conferences for 17 years. It was an excellent educational experience. Dr. Plourd (comedian, practical, shares wealth of experience based on years of practice) was excellent.” Medical attendee, Symposia Medicus Conference

“I always look forward to Dr. Plourd’s presentations. They are evidence-based, current and immediately applicable to practice. Pay him whatever he needs. Keep him coming back! He is a fabulous presenter. Very informative and entertaining.” Conference attendee
